Zambia
Zambia...Sable....Adventure
If you have ever wanted to hunt a truly exceptional sable bull, you have found the right place! Zambia is a wonderful African country that will appeal to the more adventurous hunter. The hunting area is approximately 8000 acres with over 10 miles of river frontage making up the main boundary. The property is located on the Kafue River, approximately 100 km North West of Kafue National Park. There are no internal fences and no commercial farming takes place on the property (although there is perimeter fencing). The operation has a good road network throughout the property making use of natural terrain features. The closest town is Mpongwe, a 5 hour drive from Lusaka – 4 hours hard surface road from Lusaka to Mpongwe and then 1.5 hour bush track. For those on a shorter time frame, we do offer the option of landing at an airstrip 1.5 hours drive from the ranch.
The vegetation is miombo woodland with extensive dambos and flood plains along the river. Fishing and Crocodile viewing is excellent along the river and dam area. This area boasts fantastic sable along with defassa waterbuck, Kafue lechwe, duiker, blue duiker, yellow back duiker, bushbuck, puku, reedbuck, zebra, eland, warthog, jackal and wide variety of birdlife. Bird hunts are available.
This Private Reserve is managed by one of the directors, Patsy Hahn and the ranch manager, Tinus Gouws. Patsy has 18 years experience in tourism, as a teenager the Luangwa valley was her play ground, several years were spent developing three camps in the lower Zambezi, and she now based full time at the reserve is currently an apprentice professional hunter. Hands on involvement with wildlife is her passion and having completed “the chemical and physical capture of wildlife” course in Zimbabwe she is actively involved in the ranch. Patsy will be on the ranch when of any of the hunts take place, ensuring the “finer details” are taken care of. Tinus has a background in tourism, having worked in the lower Zambezi, Botswana, Namibia, SA and Dubai. He has worked in game capture and manages the daily running of the reserve and will be on hand during all hunts to help with logistics.
Hunting versus game management – this operator specializes in sable and therefore they are monitoring their diverse gene pool very closely. They are looking at a long term strategy and will only be taking off excess animals. Each year they have a set quota to ensure continuous yearly hunts. Yearly game counts and the assessment of trophy size are estimated on all species, and a yearly quota will be released, being private land we are assured of long term ideals. Sable bulls – there may be an instance where they have selected a certain bull for breeding; this stud will be clearly marked and not available for hunts.
Hunting ethics – please adhere to the ranch ethics, before each hunt all available species and rate will confirmed to the PH, this is your hunt and we respect this fact.
